Miss Wilson's 4th grade class

So here is a short story...
6th grade-Miss Freezes' class, the most beautiful teacher in the school.  All the boys were in love with this free spirit-soooo... I guess Jay thought she and every other person in class needed to notice him.  Hum, how to get attention, lets see, okay, is everybody ready???  Jay's mother is a great cook and she made a great breakfast as always -  and Jay was up to sharing on this particular day.  Eggs and pancakes fell from his mouth onto the floor and his desk...
He didn't enjoy the rest of the morning in Nurse Johnson's office.  But the rest of us enjoyed having a surprise recess while the janitor cleaned up the room.  But, Jay came right back the next day with jokes about how we got some free time instead of school work!  Miss Freeze I'm sure will never forget him.  (how come I remember this sort of thing?)    ~Danielle

Dorothy Remembers

Sans Resources / Pre-Google
Jay and I had one "fight" in our relationship. It was literally a "barfight" since I was tending the Belden bar when it started.
He was staying in a cabin with the rest of his San Mateo gang, and was sitting across the bar from me on a stool. Ironically, it was over who sang the song "What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love". He said the singer was Dusty Springfield, and I swore it was Dionne Warwick. We called 4 radio stations and Sara, but without resolving the issue. It was awful! We were both so sure we were right.

I finally remembered that the Forrest Gump soundtrack had it, so I went and found that and we learned that both of us were wrong! The singer is Jackie DeShannon. We hugged and made up, and have joked about it since. Thus, for Jay, I am singing the song myself!!!

The Story of Roman the Tobin Trojan

Howdy!
Roman facts:
Roman Mills is the Great Uncle of Jay Mills. Prior to moving to Tobin, he was in a storage room in the Chico Raleys where he had previously been on display for the Roman Meals bread company before he retired. After Jay and I brought him home, Jay lovingly painted him surfer boy bronze. He has ever since been Roman, the Tobin Trojan. (Although, Romans and Trojans are two different things)
Roman really enjoys dressing up in different costumes for parties and occasions. He has been Hawaiian, a road worker, Rasta, a kayaker and, of course a Trojan in the Plumas County parade.
Roman looks forwards to participating in many more events in the future.

Sara adds: I actually got the honor of helping Jay paint Roman the very first time.  When Roman was first adopted, he was swimming pool blue all over.  Roman was mounted on a stump in front of the Tobin Resort Lodge and people liked to stop and get their pictures taken with him.
In 2008, Roman played a key role in representing the Trojan theme when Dorothy made it her business, after visiting New Orleans where Jeffery was working, to "adopt a school" in Grand Isle.  Their mascot was the Trojans, which also happens to be the mascot of the Quincy Jr./Sr. High School.  She held many events to raise funds to send to the school, including and not limited to a booth at the Quincy Farmers Market.  We also built a float to enter in the Plumas-Sierra County Fair Parade with Roman as the centerpiece.  Some of us dressed in togas.  Jay dressed as illustrated:

More Memories from Lori Eden

Jay and I met when he was 17 and I was nineteen.  We worked together at Levitz Furniture and work became our play ground.  We use to entertain the sales staff by doing a puppet show which we called the Toots & Buster show and they would all show up and laugh like crazy at the ad-libbing we did.  One of my favorite memories from that era was when Jay was summoned by his mother to move to Michigan for awhile and we wrote lot’s of letters and made many phone calls during that time.  He called and told me he was coming back and gave me the flight instructions and I went to the airport to pick him up, back then they still had the big stairs on wheels that the rolled out to the plane and here came 6’ 3” Jay in 4” platform shoes with giant bell bottoms (all very in vogue at the time) his long hair flying in the breeze and a big white box under his arm, as he came through the doors and spotted me he yelled out “Toots!”  and I followed with “Buster” and he dropped the box on the floor and opened it and pulled out a long rabbit fur coat which he held out for me to slip on and we grabbed each other and skipped out of the terminal.  Jay and I could be so silly, he always told me that I had the sense of humor of a fourteen year old boy. I miss you Jay.
